Finding Inspiration for Table Linens
Right now I’m working on the inaugural collection of table linens for Beaumont House Design. Working closely with my design and printing studio in Jaipur, it’s almost an overwhelming process of finding the right patterns and color combinations. I have quickly realized that every color is my favorite!
However, I know that I have to edit the ideas to something more cohesive that truly speaks to me and sparks joy. To narrow down the color combinations and draw inspiration, I’ve been observing the spring garden with new appreciation. The gentle curves of the native Service Berry tree branches with tender white blooms have me thinking about loose patterns of flowering branches. What color combinations work best and what would the table look like…a dinner for 8 on the patio overlooking the mountains? A casual lunch for two in the kitchen with wine and pasta with the windows open?
The spring bulbs are blooming and my favorite daffodil, ‘White Explosion’ greets me on the pathway to the cabin. This double daffodil reminds me of a small white peony. It has layers of soft, creamy petals with a pale-yellow center. Would these blooms translate into a sweet border for a tablecloth and could we explore it in different colorways? I hope so!
Of course tulips are always a source of inspiration for color and form. This year’s tulip harvest has been beautiful. A wheelbarrow of yellow tulips and armfuls of double tulips in shades of pink are also giving me all the color feels. Is there a colorway here to explore, pairing the buttery yellow with soft pink and the perfect green of the stem?
Every shape and color is sparking ideas, whether it’s for the first collection or future collections. Do any of these colors speak to you? Let me know in the comment section. I’d love to hear from you.
